Broward County's first attempt to charge YNW Melly with the first-degree murder of his YNW crewmates Juvy and Sakchaser ended in a mistrial.

Melly is still locked up without bail and will be retried in September 2025.

His lawyer, Michale Pizzi Jr., is trying to get him out.

Over the weekend, he filed a lawsuit alleging that Melly was "illegally detained under conditions that violate the First, Fifth, Sixth, Eighth, and Fourteenth Amendments to the United States Constitution."

"[Melly's conditions] shock the conscience and could not even be imagined ... even in a third world country that has no guard rails protection human decency and dignity," Pizza told the Miami Herald.   "It is utterly disgraceful that in the this day and age, a young Black male has been placed in debilitating isolation and deprived of seeing his own mother for years.

According to the suit, Melly has not been able to see or speak with any family in three years and has been experiencing such "debilitating isolation" that it has interfered with his attorneys' ability to work on his case.
