All of XXXTentacion's antics (and good sales numbers) have paid off.
Billboard is reporting that the 19-year old has just signed a deal with Capitol Music Group worth $6 million.
The deal is through indie distributor Caroline, and will cover yet-to-be-released material.
In his young career, X has beefed with Drake, was knocked out with a punch, punched a fan, got tossed into the barrier by security, got hit with a dildo, “disappeared,” “reappeared,” got shot with a teaser, released a video on which he hangs a little white kid, and, most recently, shaved off his eyebrows and dyed his dread’s platinum blonde.
But X has backed up the silliness with sales: His debut album 17, which dropped in August, has moved over 300,000 units so far.
He also has a pretty nasty pending legal issue on his ledger.
Last October, X was charged with aggravated battery of a pregnant woman, domestic battery by strangulation, false imprisonment, and witness-tampering. Last month, the brutally ugly details of the accusations leaked.
X maintains his innocence and the trial is set to begin December 11.
If X is found guilty, Capitol is going to have a lot of trouble justifying the signing. Especially in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein fallout.
Do you think this works out for Capitol?
