Wale may be Jerry Seinfeld's favorite rapper. But that's probably not the demographic he's going after.
The DC MC, who has been promoting his upcoming "The Album About Nothing" (Obvs, the Seinfeld love is mutual), addressed his lack of standing in the hip-hop world during interview with the Power 105.1 Breakfast Club. Or at least his lack of standing compared to chart toppers like Drake, J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar.
Maybe it’s [my fault]. Kendrick dropped that joint yesterday and [people were saying] ‘Nobody makes feel-good rap’. What? You’re gonna tell me I didn't make ‘Sunshine’? That’s a damn good record. [People] say ‘Nobody has content’… ‘Black Heroes’… That shit hurt me though, cause I’m like, ‘Damn dog, the shit I’m saying on that record. That shit hurt. Why the fuck is it falling short? What am I doing?”Should Wale be bigger? "The Gifted" debuted at number one last year, so it's not exactly like he's struggling. But do you think "The Album About Nothing" will help him achieve the kind of name recognition of a Drake?
If not, he always has Jerry.
