Twitter made Troy Ave the joke of the week when his album sales for Major Without A Deal were only a little over 4,000. If you thought those numbers are bad, Tyga's The Gold Album: The 18th Dynasty only moved 2,200 copies in its first week.
In defense of Tyga, he did release his album on Spotify exclusively for several days, before finally put it on iTunes on Friday. Still, for an artist who is used to moving around 50-60K, this is disappointing.
Tyga defended himself in this tweet directed at Complex, who broke the story of the poor sales.
@ComplexMag label I put it out for free on spotify last tues. the whole purpose was to stream it.Kuz label problems. Got millions of streams
