A new study from New York University has found that Hip Hop is the favorite musical genre of psychopaths.
Researchers asked 200 people to listen to 260 songs. Those with the highest psychopathic scores were most likely to be Hip Hop fans.
The researchers also found that the Eminem track 'Lose Yourself' and the Blackstreet track 'No Diggity' were "strikingly popular" with psychopaths. They declined to offer a ranking of songs beyond that in fear of influencing further studies.
The researchers are trying to see if there's a real connection between musical tastes and psychopathy. If there is, they want to know whether a playlist of songs could predict potential psychopaths.
About one percent of people are psychopaths. But about 20 percent of those in prison are.
The 20 traits associated with psychopathy are glib and superficial charm, grandiose estimation of self, need for stimulation, pathological lying, cunning and manipulativeness, lack of remorse or guilt, shallow affect, callousness and lack of empathy, parasitic lifestyle, poor behavioral controls, sexual promiscuity, early behavior problems, lack of realistic long-term goals, impulsivity, irresponsibility, failure to accept responsibility for own actions, many short-term marital relationships, juvenile delinquency, revocation of conditional release and criminal versatility.
Perhaps they will have to add a need for bagging it up and mom's spaghetti to that list.
