T.I. loves talking. However, he suddenly went silent after the immense backlash he got for this comment he made about the annual hymen checks he takes his daughter Deyjah on
"Deyjah's 18, just graduated high school now and she's attending her first year of college, figuring it out for herself. And yes, not only have we had the conversation, we have yearly trips to the gynecologist to check her hymen," Tip said.
Tip finally addressed the controversial comments on Jada Smith's Red Table Talk. He started off by saying he wasn't entirely serious in his remarks. [Jump to 3 minutes.]
"From a place of truth, I began to embellish and exaggerate and I think a lot people took it extremely literally. Because if you know any reputation of who I am as a father. I think that honestly, people knew me better."
The ladies of Red Talk then explained that most people can't know him as well as people he actually knows know him. Then T.I. went on to more or less confirm that he did take Deyjah on hymen checks.
"Never said I was in any exam room ... I never said it was being done present day as an 18 year old. [Actually, he did suggest that he did.] And I never said her mom wasn't present."
T.I. did concede that he probably shouldn't have brought the hymen checks up publicly because it embarrassed Deyjah. But he doesn't seem particularly sorry for having put her through the exams, or for believing that a hymen check can accurately account for a person's level of sexual activity.
