They Stuck 21 Savage In a Brutal Detention Center

by HHL JT

21 Savage has been in lockdown 23 hours a day since getting picked up by ICE on Super Bowl Sunday. The British national is awaiting word on whether he'll be deported back to his homeland in the Irwin County Detention Center.

The facility is described as one of the worst immigration detention centers in the U.S. Rolling Stone reports:

The rapper is being held in Irwin County Detention Center, sources familiar with the situation tell Rolling Stone. Abraham-Joseph’s location was previously reported by The Blast. Irwin, a 1,200-capacity facility located about three hours from Atlanta, has a brutal history — guards are quick to toss detainees into solitary confinement and officials ignore reports of sexual abuse, according to reports from detainees and their attorneys. “It’s a horrendous place and one of the worst immigration detention centers in the U.S.,” says Azadeh Shahshahani, who spent seven years as National Security and Immigrants’ Rights Project Director for the ACLU of Georgia.

An investigation by Shahshahani and her collaborators found that inmates are regularly fed food that is rancid or has objects like rocks or cockroaches in it. It takes between two days to two weeks for detainees to get any kind of medical treatment.

Hopefully, 21 will be out of there soon.
