YNW Melly is on trial for two counts of first-degree murder.
The 24-year-old has been locked up since February of 2019 for killing his crew members YNW Juvy and YNW Sakchaser in their home state of Florida. The forensic and DNA evidence against him is substantial.
With his trial starting on June 20, it looks like he will be.
Not only that, but last week Broward County circuit judge John Murphy granted prosecutors' request to follow a new Florida statute that allows juries to recommend a death sentence with an 8-4 vote.
In the past, the vote to execute needed to be unanimous. (The vote to convict of murder still needs to be unanimous.)
Florida's governor Ron DeSantis pushed through the new statute after Parkland High School shooter Nikolas Cruz escaped the death penalty on a 9-3 vote.
