TDE's Punch Says Race Has A Lot To Do With Jack Harlow's 'First Class' Going No. 1

by Daryl Nelson

Jack Harlow's song "First Class" has grabbed the number one spot on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, and TDE president Terrence "Punch" Henderson says Harlow being white has a lot to do with it.

To prove his point, he brought up Macklemore's notorious 2014 Grammy Rap Album of the Year win over Punch's (former) artist Kendrick Lamar.

It’s really crazy how exceptional we have to be as oppose to other folks. They just need a C+ average basically. If that. We really have to talk about it at some point.

I guess I wasn’t really clear here because a lot of ppl missed the point. Racism. Systemic racism. That’s the point.

"It’s really crazy how exceptional we have to be as oppose to other folks," tweeted Punch on Tuesday, April 19. "They just need a C+ average basically. If that. We really have to talk about it at some point."

"Kendrick is fine," he added. "He’s been going hard at a high level from 04-2018 as far as output. He can take as much time as he wants. But he’s also experienced C+ artist get more acclaim and opportunity than his A+ efforts. Look at his first Grammy experience ... I guess I wasn’t really clear here because a lot of ppl missed the point. Racism. Systemic racism. That’s the point."
