Producer Dr. Luke, who's worked with everyone from Nicki Minaj to T.I. to Miley Cyrus, is reportedly out at Sony.
Kesha has been suing Luke for sexual harassment and battery since 2014. The 'Tik Tok' singer recently asked the judge to release her from her Sony contract because it tied her to her alleged assaulter. But that request was refused.
However, the backlash over the decision -- which has included Taylor Swift, Adele and Lady Gaga publicly siding with Kesha -- has apparently convinced Sony to cut ties with Luke.
"Kesha has no case in regards to her contract but they can’t afford the Adeles of the world out in the streets calling the label unsupportive,” a source told industry website TheWrap. "The fact that this hasn’t already been taken care of with Luke is confusing, especially for people in the building."Since Luke hasn't been convicted of anything in a criminal or civil court, we'd expect that he's going to be leaving Sony with a big payout.
"Somebody has been convicted via Twitter,” a second individual close to the decision told TheWrap. “No court has convicted this person, so there may not be any legal basis to terminate an agreement. It would have to be mutual."Releasing Luke from his Sony contract would presumably allow Kesha to begin recording music again with the label.
Update: Dr. Luke's lawyer denies TheWraps report, and insists Luke is staying with Sony.
