Snoop Dogg And Dr. Dre Have Differing Opinions On Who Owns 'The Chronic'

Dr. Dre The Chronic made Snoop Dogg into a star.

But it doesn't look like it's going to help make him a record company mogul.

Last month, Snoop Dogg bought Death Row from the MNRK Music Group, which is controlled by private equity giant Blackstone.

However, it was reported the deal didn't include many of Death Row's most famous properties, including masters for artists like 2Pac and Dr. Dre.

In an interview with Tidal this week, Snoop suggested he was in the process of getting Pac's catalog back and had already got The Chronic back to Death Row.

“As far as 2Pac’s masters, 2Pac’s masters came back to him last year. But I got a great relationship with his estate, and I’m pretty sure we’re going to be able to work something out … to continue some Death Row 2Pac business now that Snoop Dogg is in control of Death Row. Same with Dr. Dre and The Chronic. I got The Chronic album. I got Doggystyle, Tha Doggfather, Murder Was the Case, Dogg Food, Above the Rim. I got all those records.”

Dre's lawyer pushed back on that in no uncertain terms.

There are false reports out regarding ownership by Death Row of Dr. Dre’s The Chronic,” attorney Howard King said. “Dr. Dre owns 100 percent of The Chronic.

Dre and Snoop are on good terms:  they just performed together at the Super Bowl halftime show.

So that's quite a weird misunderstanding.
