Dino Delvaille brokered the famous deal between Universal and Cash Money, which netted Birdman and Slim $30 million, an outrageous sum for a rap label at the time.
During a chat with DJ Whoo Kid, the brothers discussed cutting the deal with Dino.
They confirmed what Dino had said about the negotiations -- which included the Cash Money crew blindfolding him, taking him to the hood, and laying a gun on the table when they started talking business.
"We get him from the airport, put a blindfold on him and put him in the other car," Slim revealed. "And Dino sweating. He was nervous. We put him in the Hummer."
The tactic worked. Universal had only wanted to do a one-off deal, but they got a comprehensive one that ultimately included an 85-15 split in Cash Money's favor and 100 percent ownership of their masters.
Here's how Dino described the meeting:
“[Birdman] comes and sits down across the table from me, and he lays a gun down on the table. He says, ‘I heard you want to do business with us.’ And I’m looking at the table and looking at the gun like, ‘Yeah, yeah. I wanna do business with you.’ He goes, ‘You know what? I respect you. You’re the only motherfucker from New York who came to my back yard. All these motherfuckers from New York are trying to fly me to New York and Fly me to LA. I don’t like flying; I don’t want to go to these places.’ And I said, ‘Oh, no doubt.’”
