Shaun King Defends T.I. & His Son From Charleston White

Yesterday, an emotional T.I. complained that none of his friends are standing up for him in his beef with anti-gang advocate Charleston White, who had insulted both Tip and his son King.

"As I meditate and unpack the circumstances, it dawns on me that this [is] the second time that I've seen my family attacked, and I've seen social media weaponized and used against us by the enemy," said Tip. "Both times I watched the community have absolutely nothing to say on our behalf. I watched friends or people who we say are friends. I watched people who have donated our time, effort, energy, resources, and attention to look on as me and my family [were] attacked."

It turns out one person did stand up for Tip.  That would be Shaun King, the civil rights activist and accused grifter who is derisively referred to by Black Twitter as "Talcum X" 

I need to speak on this, because it’s the right thing to do and because Tip has been a friend to me in hard times. For years. ⁣

Some cowardly man called himself making public death threats against TI’s teenage son, King. He started targeting King and somebody else’s son for clout. I won’t even repeat the vile and violent words this shameful man put out there, but I will say these 3 things:⁣

1. Leave people’s kids alone. You’ve crossed a damn red line when you start attacking people’s kids. Period. You run the risk now of causing some serious trouble for yourself and for others. It’s a line you don’t cross, a code. ⁣

2. The Internet has people so hungry for fame and attention that they will do ANYTHING to get it. It’s shameful. And it’s dangerous. For everybody. ⁣

3. Social media companies need to ban people for making death threats and targeting and harassing people’s kids. This ain’t free speech. ⁣
⁣
And we all need to do a better job of having each other’s back.

Is Shaun King the friend Tip needs in these trying times?
