On September 11, 2007, Kanye West and 50 Cent had their now-famous album battle.
The showdown — which Yasiin Bey recently talked about — was to determine which LP would sell more, Ye's Graduation or Fif's Curtis.
Kanye ended up winning since Graduation sold 957,000 units when it dropped and 50's Curtis 691,000.
On Sunday, September 11, SOHH shared unreleased footage of 50 Cent promising to retire if Ye sold more than he did, which the G-Unit rapper said a lot during that time.
“They’d like to see Kanye West give me a problem because I’ve worked myself into a space where I’ve become the favorite," said Fif. "Everybody roots for the underdog when he goes against the favorite, but let’s raise the stakes. If Kanye West sells more records than 50 Cent on Sept. 11, I’ll no longer write music ... I won’t put out any more solo albums."
Would you say that Ye beating 50 in 2007 changed Hip Hop in any way?
