J. Cole apologizing to Kendrick Lamar in the middle of a rap battle seems to be unprecedented in Hip Hop, and people are hammering him online.
We shared a video of the apology yesterday, and Cole said he regrets releasing "7 Minute Drill," the response to Kendrick's diss lines on the song "Like That."
"I hope y'all can forgive a n*gga for my misstep, and I can get onto to my own true path," Cole said on Sunday at his Dreamville Festival. "Because I ain't going to lie to y'all. The past two days felt terrible. It let me know how good I've been sleeping for the last ten years. All of that to say, I want to now perform the song that's a reminder to me of getting back on the right path and getting in tune with God."
There are some who said they didn't mind that Cole apologized and thought it was big of him. Others, however, said he created an unremovable blemish on his career.
"J Cole put himself on the Summer Jam Screen. This is a day of hiphop infamy Cole surrendered and has forfeited his right to ever call himself the best mc," someone tweeted.
"As a. rappers rapper. As a competitor. I am surprised. I am disgusted. I am disappointed,"another comment read.
