NBA YoungBoy really wants his masters. He recently revealed the offered to do his next fouralbums for free if Atlantic gave him those rights but his label turned that down.
Russ is a master at navigating the music industry and has the receipts to prove it. In an interview with Variety, he explained how much someone like YoungBoy could make if he owned his masters.
NBA YoungBoy recently posted that he tried to give his label four free albums in exchange for his masters.
I saw that. See, that’s the game. At the end of the day, When you don’t own your stuff, people can say no. It’s a business, they don’t have to give you back shit. It’s sad but my advice to him would be to not renegotiate the deal, don’t sign off for more albums. Whatever albums you have left, put them out ASAP and get out of the f–ing deal, then go indie and flood with three or fours albums on a Tunecore-type service or any digital distributor. Build up that independent catalog. Someone like NBA YoungBoy will make a million in a month.
YoungBoy deal cut his deal with Atlantic during a time he was paying a lot of lawyers to keep him out of jail, and it's known that they got him for cheap. Here's what Master P said about YB's deal last year.
"He did a deal for $2 million for five records," said P. "So think about that. You get the money up front but imagine what they get. So we have to teach that to the next generation. Look at the bigger picture. Just don't look at the now. You done sold your soul for a 360 deal that you have no knowledge of".
