Royce Da 5'9" Says There is Only One Current rapper Who Drops "Competitive" Bars

Royce Da 5'9" is a rapper's rapper.

But he doesn't see that type of lyrical skill and drive in today's generation.

During a chat with his Slaughterhouse homie Joe Budden, Royce said there is only one rapper who's trying to be great these days when it comes to bars.

"I haven’t taken a real deep look out into the landscape but from where I’m sitting it looks like J. Cole the only one being competitive. He’s the only one who’s rapping with the kind of conviction that says I still value the number one spot as a lyricist," Royce argued.  “I see a lot of the younger generations not really hanging their hat on just the lyrical part of creativity at all. They’re finding different ways to impact and resonate with people which is fine.”

Is it just Cole, or does Royce have to take that deeper look?

Budden, for his part, probably agrees with Royce.  Last week, he argued that Cole has now surpassed Kendrick Lamar and Drake, the two rappers he's long been compared to.
