Rick Ross tends not to mention he used to be a corrections officer, which is not the most Hip Hop of jobs.
However, he did speak on it during his stop on the Full Send podcast. [Jump to 46 minutes.]
"When I was 20," Ross said when asked when he was a CO. "I didn't really get to make it to the prison. Because you got to go through training and all that and I didn't last long. I made it four months before they said I was a little tardy."
As for why he chose that field?
"One of my big homies had just got in trouble and a lot of things were going on and he just suggested it."
Ross said he wasn't into all the running and jogging they required during CO training, and mentioned that the pay was "horrendous."
So he became a rapper instead.
