A couple of weeks ago, Quincy Jones caused a huge stir when he gave two separate interviews and said a whole bunch of crazy things.
Among other things, Jones claimed that he dated Ivanka Trump, that Michael Jackson stole much of his music and Richard Pryor slept with actor Marlon Brando. He also made some disparaging remarks about women who are aging and gaining wait.
In a handwritten letter that's just been released, the 84-year-old apologized for his words but didn't take any of them back. Jones also said that his six daughters staged an intervention, which convinced him to apologize.
"A couple of weekends ago, my six daughters (who I'm beyond proud of) took me aside to do a surprise family intervention, because of some silly things I've said in recent interviews, and I've learned my lesson" he wrote. "I'm so grateful for my daughters, because they aren't scared to stand up to their daddy. I am an imperfect human and I'm not afraid to say it."
Quincy then revealed that alcohol wasn't the reason he blurted out so much information because he gave it up three years ago and wished his controversial statements didn't take away from the other things he wanted to convey.
"One of the hardest things about this situation is that this bad mouthing has contradicted the very real messages I tried to relay about racism, inequality, homophobia, poverty, you name it, and of course I don't want that," he wrote. "So I encourage you all to please grow with me and keep on keeping on. Love and 85 year old bow-legged man who is still learning from his mistakes."
