Pusha T Describes 'Darkest Before Dawn' As "Dark & Scathing"

by Sermon

Pusha T's King Push: Darkest Before Dawn is arriving on December 18. Push just broke down the album's content in an interview with Rolling Stone.

"I feel like my lyrics are just dark and scathing. I feel like the lyrics on Darkest Before Dawn are uncompromised hip-hop and really speaking to my core fan base. Basically what's been known in my discography the entire time. I feel like I'm the last rap superhero. I really do. I feel like everybody else, they seem to be a bit victimized and I don't feel like that's me."
He goes on to say that he feels a lot of rappers are running to social media and their music to cry about their shortcomings and that's the opposite of how he thinks rap should be. "Everyone I know when I was coming up were like rap superheroes to me and you wanted to be like them," he tells RS. "There's not too many rappers you want to be like these days."

On Darkest Before Dawn, Pusha says he aimed to bring out the darkest piece of the producers' souls. He mentions Timbaland, Kanye West, Sean Combs, Boi-1da, Nashiem Myrick, Mario Winans, Baauer, and Mano as the big names he got in the studio with.

Finally, he gives an update on Kanye West's SWISH. As G.O.O.D. Music's newly appointed President, Pusha says he hasn't worked on the album but everything he's heard is "phenomenal." If the possible SWISH-related songs we've gotten in 2015 weren't your cup of tea, he reassures that what 'Ye has now sounds nothing like any of them.
