As the story goes, Pimp C almost didn't do "Big Pimpin" with JAY-Z -- and then no-showed the track's iconic video -- because he hated the song's beat.
Pimp's old pal Too Short remembers things differently. In an interview with BET, he says the UGK member, who died in 2007, didn't want to do the 1999 track because he wasn't comfortable with what JAY-Z's relationship with the late 2Pac had been.
"Turns out, [Pimp C’s] only logic for not wanting to be on that song was all about Tupac," Too Short explained, adding he isn't sure if Pimp ever even met Pac. "He said ‘I’m not fuckin’ with nobody that didn’t fuck with Tupac."
After a lot of negotiations, they got Pimp on the track. But he still wouldn't do the video.
"I was one of the people who was saying, ‘Man, just do it,'" Too Short said. “He missed the fuckin’ video shoot in Trinidad during Carnival. Who the fuck is going to be, like, ‘I’m not going with JAY-Z and Dame Dash to Carnival with a bunch of naked girls and shoot a video … Pimp C."
Which version do you believe, beat or Pac?
