Outkast has done many things during their storied career. Playing the Super Bowl isn't one of them.
But that's not because they haven't been offered TV's most coveted musical slot. In an interview with The Dan LeBatard Show, Big Boi spoke about how his temperamental partner Andre 3000 turned down the NFL.
"We had two songs: 'The Way You Move' and 'Hey Ya.' Dre didn't want to split the songs up, he didn't want to cut the songs, so he was like, 'nah, can't do it'... He wanted to perform both songs in full and they didn't give us enough time to do it, so we passed."Big Boi doesn't say which year it was, but it sounds like the league wanted Outkast to split the show with at least one other act and Dre wasn't having it.
Big Boi explained he tried his best to pressure his partner in rhyme into doing the show anyway, but Dre wouldn't cave.
You can listen to the interview here. The Super Bowl talk starts at about the four minute mark.
