Donald Trump is at it again.
During a rally in Alabama yesterday, the President made controversial comments about both the national anthem protests that are going on in the NFL, and the league's increased policing of dangerous tackles.
"Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, 'Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. Out. He's fired. He's fired!” "You know, some owner's going to do that," Trump said. "He's going to say, 'That guy who disrespects our flag, he's fired.'" "Fifteen yards, throw him out of the game,” he said according to video of the speech. “They had that last week. I watched for a couple of minutes. Two guys just really beautiful tackle, boom, 15 yards. The referee gets on television, his wife is sitting at home, she’s so proud of him — they’re ruining the game. Right? They’re ruining the game. Hey look, that’s what they want to do. They want to hit, but it is hurting the game.”
"The NFL and our players are at our best when we help create a sense of unity in our country and our culture. There is no better example than the amazing response from our clubs and players to the terrible natural disasters we've experienced over the last month," Goodell said in the statement. "Divisive comments like these demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL, our great game and all of our players, and a failure to understand the overwhelming force for good our clubs and players represent in our communities."So did NFL Players Association Executive Director DeMaurice Smith:
We will never back down. We no longer can afford to stick to sports. pic.twitter.com/Ec3Bc4qt9h
