We're still not entirely sure what happened to the Wu Tang album "The Wu – Once Upon a Time in Shaolin." You know, the 31 track creation that RZA said will be "available for purchase and ownership by one individual only" and apparently has received offers for up to $5 million for.
The Wu Tang mastermind is also playing next-level games with the release of the band's next release, the highly anticipated "A Better Tomorrow." The album will feature all ten Wu members -- yes, Raekwon is on board -- and will be available on November 28.
So here's the catch. "A Better Tomorrow" will be released as a portable speaker. The "boombox," which is being manufactured in conjunction with BoomBotix, will play itself, and also play through bluetooth devices. It will retail for $79.99.
"I had the idea pop up into my head, for a while, about music being kind of disconnected to us. Of being so digitised and accessible, but yet not tangible," RZA explained. "But this thing here, a tangible item, like your old Walkman or your old cassette, or your old record, that's what this is bringing back."
RZA also hopes the format will provide a layer of protection against piracy. (Good luck with that.)
It's a little unclear if the "A Better Tomorrow" boombox is just a limited edition pre-release with a some extra goodies or if it will be the album's only format. But that should be cleared up in the coming days.
