Mulatto's name has been rubbing people the wrong way for some time, which is something she's completely aware of. So a while back the rapper announced that she'd be changing it.
It's taken some time for her to choose a new name since it's a pretty big deal. But now that process is over, and she'll be announcing the new moniker this year. Mulatto also said she won't be dropping any new music until the switch is announced. [Head to the 13-minute mark]
"My intentions was to never glorify being mulatto," she explained on Hot Freestyle. "So if that's how it's being perceived and people think I'm saying, 'Oh, I'm better because I'm mulatto' or 'My personality trait is mulatto' ... then I need to change the matter at hand ... I need to be able to speak on it and people hear me out. I want them to also understand that the name change at this level in your career is a big decision. Freaking investors, labels, everything has been riding on this name, so it is a big decision."
Do you think Mulatto's career will suffer because of the name change?
