Report: Mexican Cartels Using 'Grand Theft Auto V' To Recruit Drug Runners

Law enforcement has become increasingly concerned that the Mexican cartels are using the online version of Grand Theft Auto V to recruit drug runners.

American officials recently uncovered 60kg of methamphetamine in a teenage girl’s car.  The girl claimed that she had met a man playing GTA online who said he would pay her $2000 to smuggle electronics out of Mexico.  However, instead, her gas tank was filled with the narcotic.

While the teen is still being charged with drug smuggling, officials on both sides of the border believe that this wasn't an isolated incident and that the cartels are on GTA and other online games looking for gullible players to be made into unwitting drug mules.

Stay safe online.
