A lot of people have been going to bat for Meek Mill. In the last few days alone, he's been visited by New England Patriots' owner Robert Kraft and Philly Mayor Jim Kenney. He's also had an interview with NBC Nightly News anchor Lestor Holt, so his case has clearly gone national.
In the phone interview, Meek talked about being sentenced to 10 years of probation in 2008 and said it was something that was set up to make him fail. He also said the conditions of his probation could've put him back in prison for any kind of police contact, even being arrested for jaywalking.
"I wouldn't have believed that I would be on probation this long," he told Lester. "They gave me 10 years probation and I know, almost for sure in my mind, this will bring me back to prison. Because technical violation is police contact. Like [with] police contact, you don't have to be charged with a crime, you don't have to be found guilty of a crime, you can be sentenced to what you were for like what I was facing ... She [the judge] said, so If I was stopped by the police for jaywalking, legally she has the right to give me five to 10 years."
Meanwhile, there were a few reports that stated the Philly rapper would be released from prison this coming Monday, but they've turned out to be false.
"As far as I know, there is no truth to those reports," said his lawyer Joe Tacopina.
