Picking your target wisely is a key part of a successful carjacking.
Especially when you're doing your crime with a fake gun.
21-year-old Angelo Martinez of Albuquerque, NM didn't realize that when he asked three football players for a ride, with the intention of eventually stealing their car.
When Martinez got to where he had told the jocks was his drop-off point, he pulled out a fake gun and told them to got out of the car.
They did. But when one the players noticed Martinez stumbling with his fake firearm he punched him in the face. Then his friends pounced and the three gave Martinez a pretty epic beating.
Police eventually arrived and arrested Martinez. In addition to his toy gun, he had a real knife and a note which read "Give me the keys to your wip and a nobody get heart. I know where you live so don’t make me kill."
The combination of the poor targeting, the lack of preparation and the incriminating note make Martinez a leading candidate for worst criminal of the year.
