Maino Talks About This Weekend's Crazy Escape From Unbreakable Prison

by HHL Editors

Prior to his rap career, Maino spent a decade in prison for robbery and kidnapping. He was incarcerated all over New York, including about a year in the Clinton Correctional Facility, located in the northern part of the state.

If that prison name rings a bell, it's because over the weekend two murderers escaped from Clinton, the first jailbreak in the facility's 170 year history.

Maino appeared on CNN yesterday to discuss the incident. Like many, he compared the unprecedented escape -- in which the inmates drilled out with power tools -- to the movie 'The Shawshank Redemption."

"From my perspective, that's like a super max prison," Maino said about Clinton. "Escaping is usually a fantasy, we're talking about something that seems like it’s out of the movies,"  Maino explained.
When asked if the other prisoners ever talked about breaking out during his time in Clinton, Maino said not really, and reiterated that an escape would be a fantasy.

"It’s something we don’t usually see, we don’t usually encounter stuff like that... Out of the seventy prisons in New York State, that’s one of the most secure … You’re never really alone to be able to move around to get free. I thought it was interesting when I saw the report yesterday. The first thing it reminded me of was The Shawshank Redemption."
Richard Matt, 48, and David Sweat, 34, remain at large. Police have been investigating a female prison employee who may have been involved in the escape.
