Mac Miller's Engineer Explains Why Mac Didn't Want To Sign With JAY-Z & Roc Nation

Mac Miller's debut album Blue Slide Park became one of the only independent albums to ever open number one on Billboard charts when it did 144K in November of 2011.

However, by 2014 Mac was looking to partner with a major to help his distribution.

He ended up signing with Warner Bros. for $10 million.

JAY-Z and Roc-a-Fella had pursued Miller before he signed with Warner one might think Roc would be the spot a young rapper would like to land.

In a new interview with GQ, Miller's engineer Josh Berg explained why Mac turned down Hov.

“[Mac Miller] didn’t sign to Roc-A-Fella because he was like, ‘I’m not gonna have it be that I needed the Jay-Z feature to get famous, for people to validate me and then people think it’s about that validation,’” Berg said.

Miller Oded in 2018 at age 26.
