A couple of years back, John Legend talked about his friendship with Kanye West souring but claimed it had nothing to do with politics. For years, the two artists have been close pals and collaborators.
"I don’t think we’re less friends because of the Trump thing," said Legend in a 2020 interview. "He's up in Wyoming. I'm here in L.A.. We've both got growing families and I no longer have a formal business relationship with him as an artist, so I think it's just part of the natural cycle of life."
But in a new interview on The Axe Files podcast, Legend said it was politics that ended their friendship. Ye has been an ardent supporter of Donald Trump and also ran for president, which Legend discussed.
"We aren’t friends as much as we used to be because, I honestly think because we publicly disagreed on his running for office [and] his supporting Trump, I think it became too much for us to sustain our friendship, honestly," the singer explained.
So, there you have it. Plus, Ye dissed Legend for not backing his political aspirations when he visited Drink Champs last year.
