As anyone who's heard the track 'You Must Love Me' knows, JAY-Z once shot his older brother.
"Got intense real intense as we got older/ Never believed it would lead to me poppin' one in your shoulder," Hov raps in the 1997 track.
JAY is said to have shot his drug-addicted big bro because he stole his ring.
Jaz-O, who was Hov's Marcy Houses mentor and who put him on his 1990 track 'The Originators,' spoke to Vlad about the brother on brother shooting.
According to Jaz, he was the one to give a young Shawn Carter the gun.
“Yeah, I can’t remember, but it was a shot to like not as to like fatally wound, you know, but just you know … to be honest, I don’t think he was aiming to really hit him, in his defense. In all honsty, he explained. “He just wanted to get this n*gga scared, like, ‘Yo, cut the sh*t.’ And it was my gun. Let me clear that up. He didn’t have the gun so he could go and shoot his brother. It was a thing back then. You got some arms, you got guns or got a gun, you know, that was a sign of brotherhood with the street. It was like, ‘Yeah, you ever run into any problems, I got an extra. You know what I'm saying? You can hold that for whatever reason.’ To be totally honest, for whatever reason. I let him borrow the gun. I had no idea for what reason. And I don't think that was the purpose that he wanted the gun. But that's how it turned out. In the song, "You Must Love Me' he talk about he ran to my crib. You bust a gun, I don't care who are, you get nervous. You get nervous he need somewhere to run to."
