JAY-Z Explains Why Kendrick Lamar Will Headline The Super Bowl

Kendrick Lamar will headline the Super Bowl halftime show in New Orleans this year.

JAY-Z, who heads the selection process for the NFL, explains why he picked K. Dot.

"Kendrick Lamar is truly a once-in-a-generation artist and performer. His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision. He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally. Kendrick's work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come," Hov said.

Kendrick Lamar announced he would be the halftime performer on his YouTube channel this morning.

"My name is Kendrick Lamar, and I'll be performing at Super Bowl LIX," he says in the clip. "Will you be pulling up? I hope so ... Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date. And I'll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one.”

It will be the second time Kendrick plays the Super Bowl following his appearance a few years back with Dr. Dre.
