In 2020, Hurricane Chris was arrested for second-degree murder and illegal possession of stolen things after shooting and killing a man outside a Shreveport, Louisiana Texaco gas station.
While Chris admitted he pulled the trigger, he argued it was self-defense and the man was trying to steal his 2016 Mercedes-Benz.
Prosecutors argued that surveillance video didn't support his self-defense claim, and neither did the fact that the Mercedes he claimed belonged to him had been recently stolen from Texas.
This week, a jury found Chris not guilty on all charges.
“I wanna thank God, my attorneys at the Washington & Wells Law Firm, and my family for standing with me as my life was on the line,” the rapper said after he was acquitted. “They wanted to give me life if I was found guilty. Now I can hug my son and think about raising him to be a man. This situation drained me and affected my health greatly. God, I give you all the glory. I got my life back and words can’t explain how I feel. Thanks to everyone who wished me well.”
