Yung Mazi was shot and killed last night at the age of 28.
We now have more details of the incident.
It happened just before 9 p.m. as Yung Mazi left the Urban Pie pizza restaurant on Hosea L. Williams Drive in Atlanta. Police responded to a report of 10 to 25 gunshots. The shooting took place near a police station, but the shooter or shooters are still at large.
Mazi's brother Luqman Abdur-Rahman has asked for privacy.
“We’re praying for him and all involved,” Abdur-Rahman told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “Our privacy is at a premium.”Mazi, a Kevin Gates affiliate, had by his own count been shot 11 times before taking his final bullet last night.
Surviving gunfire had been part of his persona, and he often mocked his shooters after they didn't succeed in snuffing him out.
“God made me bulletproof,” Yung Mazi tweeted after he was shot in December at an Atlanta Waffle House.[Related: Yung Mazi survives shooting at Atlanta Waffle House.]
In an interview with DJ Smallz, he explained why he kept getting shot.
“Man, because look at me. I’m a real dude,” he explained. “People don’t always like the real dude for some reason. That’s cool. I’m not hating. I’m not mad, honestly… I might walk around with a quarter million dollars worth of jewelry on.”
