It finally happened. Earlier this month, Gucci Mane announced that he had signed a deal with Gucci and will be the driving force behind their 2020 Cruise Collection campaign.
The relationship between the Mane and the brand hasn't always been so good. During his appearance on the Ebro in the Morning, Ebro suggested that Gucci is finally reaching out to Gucci because they need him after the bad press they got from their notorious blackface sweater. Gucci wasn't so sure.
"I wouldn't say that they need me," he said. "But I would say it's definitely a 360 [he means 180] from the relationship we used to have. They used to cease and desist, over a hundred times. Now they embracing me. It's dope ... It's a long time coming. I think they've just been watching me. They see I got an influence. I look good. I'm handsome. In shape. 'If I put the clothes of him I bet he'll make them look good.'
Next Gucci explained the origins of his name, which way predates his rap career.
Gucci's grandfather served in WW2. He was stationed in Italy and developed an affinity for Gucci clothes. When he came back, he labeled Gucci's dad "Gucci Boy" and his uncle "Gucci Man." When Radric Davis came to be they called him "Lil Gucci" or just "Gucci." The rest is history.
