At one time, French Montana wanted to do what Nipsey Hussle did, and give back to his neighborhood by buying up residential property and businesses. But the L.A. rapper's 2019 murder kept him from doing that.
"All he was trying to do was just trying to change his neighborhood and just bring some great things back and try to buy his block," French told The Breakfast Club. "And I feel like watching that scared me away from trying to do the same thing … So why come back and do that when I’m just seeing everyone just falling to it."
He also used his late friend Chinx being killed in his borough of Queens in 2015 as an example of a rapper who lost their life after staying close to home.
The Bronx artist said instead of sticking near his hood after success, he moved to the ritzy Cali neighborhood of Calabasas.
