Sad and shocking news out of the sports world.
Joe McKnight, who played for the USC Trojans, New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs, was gunned down in a road rage incident this afternoon in Terrytown, Louisiana.
Witnesses say McNight had left his car after a traffic incident and was trying to apologize to the other driver. The other driver, Ronald Gasser, then shot McKnight, who was unarmed.
"I told you not to fuck with me" Gasser was heard saying before firing another shot into McKnight's body.Gasser is being described as a 54-year old white male.
According to police, Gasser stayed on the scene and gave his weapon to the officers before being taken into custody.
“The only thing we know at this time … because everything else would be conjecture … is that Mr. Gasser did, in fact, shoot Mr. McKnight. We will be releasing additional details as we get through these interviews with these witnesses, as well as Mr. Gasser,” Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand said.McKnight starred at John Curtis Christian High School in the New Orleans area, and was the nation's number 2 prospect his senior year.
He attended USC, where he was anointed the "next Reggie Bush.' He didn't match Bush's legendary college career, and was selected in the fourth round of the 2010 draft by the New York Jets.
In 2012, McKnight was named as the Kick Returner for the All-Pro team By Pro Football Weekly / Pro Football Writers Association.
His NFL career fizzled out in 2014, but the 28-year old saw some success in 2016 as a running back in the CFL.
Now he's tragically gone. RIP.
