Fiona Apple, the always unusual icon of 90s alternative music, is peeved that Lil Nas X sampled her track “Every Single Night" in his pre-fame Nasarati mixtape cut" Kim Jong".
She recently revealed in an interview with New York Magazine that she had rejected Panic At The Disco's request to sample "Every Single Night". She didn't have a chance to reject Nas X, because he didn't ask.
“One thing that the lovely Rachel Handler didn’t mention that I did say in the interview which I would just like to say now is that Lil Nas X—you’re probably really great, but you used my song ‘Every Single Night,’ too. You sampled that song, too, in a song called ‘Kim Jong Un,’ I think. And, um, hey—where’s my money, you cute little guy? Where’s my money?”
Neither Nasarati nor "Kim Jong" can currently be found on streaming services, likely because Nas X has multiple sampls issues on the project.
It looks like Apple is going to have to keep getting by on her "Criminal" royalties.
