In October, Kim Mathers drove her Escalade into a ditch while under the influence.
The details of the case have been sealed, leading many to conclude that Eminem's ex wife was getting preferential treatment from the authorities.
But it turns out the documents relating to the case were hidden for a different reason: Kim was attempting suicide when she drove her car off of the road, and such medical information is typically sealed. She explained what happened on the Detroit radio show Mojo in the Morning.
"It was the end of a road where I knew that no one else but myself would get hurt," Kim explained. "Yes, I drank. I took pills and I hit the gas and aimed for a pole. What wasn’t played in those interviews was that I apologized immensely. I did not even expect to make it through that and told them that I tried to do this on purpose. I’m so sorry. I never lied to [first responders]. I told them everything that I did and they said I was in my right state of mind. Why did they try to petition me to go to into a psychiatric hospital if I wasn’t willing to go willingly?"Mathers added that Eminem has been a big help to her during her tough stretch -- which included her twin sister's heroin OD death in January.
“He’s been real supportive,” she said. “We’re really close friends. We’re just trying to raise our kids together and make it as normal for them as possible.”Check out the interview below.
