Hot 97's Summer Jam has two stages. The Stadium Stage, for the biggest acts, and the Festival Stage for up and comers.
On Sunday, Future, Travis Scott, The Terror Squad reunion, Pusha T & G.O.O.D. Music, Big Sean, A$AP Rocky, DJ Khaled & Friends, Young Thug, Bryson Tiller, A$AP Ferg, Kid Ink, and Tinashe will play the Stadium Stage.
The Festival Stage will feature Chance The Rapper, Tory Lanez, Curren$y, Desiigner, Post Malone, Justine Skye, Dave East, Dougie F, and Rotimi.
Given that Chance's Coloring Book is one of the biggest and most critically acclaimed projects of the year, the internet has not been happy about him being put at the kid's table with the likes of Desiigner.
Ebro and Rosenberg of Hot 97 addressed that in an interview with Real Talk.
“Well, Chance doesn’t really have a radio hit at this point,” Ebro said of Chance’s exclusion from the Stadium Stage. “He doesn’t have a mainstream hit song. He’s got a lot of brand success. Like, his brand — people know him. I think the music culture, artists really love him and anybody that loves music loves him, but I don’t think the general public knows a Chance hit song."Rosenberg had an even stronger opinion about the internet's complaints:
"People are so dumb. I don't even understand how they can be mad about that. First of all, the Festival Stage is like 10,000 people. Last year, it was 16,000,” Rosenberg said. “It’s huge. It’s still among Chance’s bigger shows. Besides big festivals ... this is the biggest show he’ll do. And what would he do on the main stage? Even if [Coloring Book] became the hottest album in the world, there wouldn't be enough time for the records to become hot." "Summer Jam is not just some cool trendy internet festival," Ebro added.Do you agree with their thoughts on Chance's place in the pecking order?
