The first week sales for Drake's surprise album/mixtape If You're Reading This, It's Too Late are almost exactly the same as the initial projections.
And that's a very good thing for Drizzy. According to Hits Daily Double, Drake has moved 497,602 units during what is essentially a five day week. If you count streaming data, that's 541,585 and a quick gold album.
This gives If You're Reading This, It's Too Late -- which will be number 1 on this week's Billboard 200 chart -- the biggest opening of 2015.
It's also Drake's fourth straight number one album. Drake's 2013 album Nothing Was The Same had 658,000 in first week sales.
However, the biggest first week Hip Hop seller of 2014, J. Cole's 2014 Forest Hills Drive, just moved 371,000 copies.
With albums from Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West and (perhaps) Lil Wayne coming soon, expect 2015 to be a much better year for Hip Hop sales. Now the question becomes whether Drake remains the year's standard setter.
