Dr. Dre Is Being Sued For $6 Million For Sample In N.W.A. Biopic

The upcoming N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton has opened an old can of worms for Dr. Dre.

Leroy "Prince Phillip" Mitchell is suing Dre for $6 million because N.W.A.'s 1989 hit 'If It Ain't Ruff'will be featured in the movie and on its soundtrack. Mitchell alleges Dre and MC Ren used a sample from his 1977 song 'Star in the Ghetto'on the track but never credited or paid him for it.

In fact, Mitchell claims he didn't even knew about the infringement until recently. According to his legal filings 'If It Ain't Ruff' has sold 3.5 million copies and resulted in 2 million albums sold.

Dr. Dre is listed as a producer on Straight Outta Compton.

He's also suddenly a lot richer than he was back in 1989, which is perhaps why after all these years Mitchell so suddenly realized that his copyright had been infringed.
