A$AP Rocky's name came up yesterday during Congress's impeachment inquiry into Donald Trump.
Trump had tried (and mostly failed) to use Twitter diplomacy to free the rapper from the dorm-like Swedish jail cell he was sitting in while waiting to be tried for a street fight earlier this year
During his testimony yesterday, United States Embassy official David Holmes said that he overheard Trump on the phone with Gordon D. Sondland, American ambassador to the European Union. During the chat, Sondland told the president Rocky "should have pled guilty" and advised the president to "let him [Rocky] get sentenced, play the racism card, give him a ticker-tape when he comes home."
He also told Trump that even if he couldn't do anything to help Rocky he should "tell the Kardashians he tried."
Per Holmes's testimony, Sondland advised Trump to let the A$AP Rocky thing go for a bit but then "play the racism card":
