Doja Cat has been opening up about her career frustrations as of late.
In October she admitted to being "overworked and unhappy," and in a new interview, she talked about hating her stage name.
The rapper's moniker comes from her fondness of cats and her favorite weed strain. But Doja said the name doesn't fit her.
“My image was the pothead hippie girl, and I’m not that,” she told Rolling Stone. “[SNL] made a joke the other day that Doja Cat sounds like a Pokémon. And you know, it didn’t hurt my feelings but it definitely hurt my feelings.”
Doja also said she'd no longer be working with Dr. Luke, who's produced a good amount of her material.
In 2014, pop singer Kesha sued Luke for sexual assault as well as emotional abuse, and he sued her for defamation.
Doja received a lot of backlash for working with Luke but that's not the reason she's making a change.
“I don’t think I need to work with him again," said Doja. "I don’t think I need to work with him in the future. I know that. I think it was definitely nice of me to work with him. There’s sh*t that he’s credited for, where I’m like, ‘Hmm, I don’t know, I don’t know if you did anything on that.'"
Do you think Doja should change her name since she doesn't like it?
