When you don't post Meek Mill's album, you get Meek feeling a certain type of way.
In a radio interview this week, Meek expressed his disappointment in bloggers, in particular DJ Akademiks, who hadn't promoted his new album Wins & Losses to his satisfaction.
“We need some fly bloggers. Because most of these bloggers, they on these blogs speaking on our culture and they don’t know anything about it," Meek said on Power 99. "Some of them got influence. You might see Akademiks’ page. They post everybody’s album. They ain’t gonna post no Meek Mill album. They ain’t posting my album. When we see them, we’ll have a little talk about it. It’s the game.”Akademiks has responded, explaining to Mill that he has been hyping his album and Meek just isn't looking in the right places.
“I haven’t posted Meek Mill to my Instagram in six months. You might be like ‘whoa, the chasers is the hottest shit in the streets.’ Meek is one of the hottest young rappers in the streets, obviously. But I don’t post him on Instagram. I’ve talked about him on my YouTube page, on Complex Media’s platform that me and Joe Budden we host— a show called ‘Everyday Struggle.’ I’ve spoken about him on Twitch. All three I’ve given my opinion on Wins & Losses, I’ve said it’s spectacular, it's great ... nothing but positive stuff," Ak explained.This all went down before we learned that Meek's album only did 87K first week -- which is a huge drop from the 250K his last album 2015's Dreams Worth More Than Money did.
That number for Wins & Losses could come up in the Billboard charts, which will likely count the free (and easily manipulatable ) spins Meek got when he put the album in front of the Tidal paywall.
But, still, Meek can't be too happy about those paid numbers.
