Cyhi The Prynce had a close brush with death after someone tried to shoot him on an Atlanta highway in February. The rapper and ghostwriter detailed the harrowing incident on Facebook a couple of days after it happened and said he wasn't sure what the person's motive was.
"At this point I don’t know if it was a mistaken identity, a robbery, or associated with something that I did when I was younger but I haven’t been in the streets in over a decade," Cyhi wrote then.
Now, in an interview with HipHopDX, he's talking about the murder attempt again, and he's convinced the shooter had him confused with someone else.
“To me, I feel like it could have been a mistaken identity because I do have a vehicle that a lot of other stars and MCs have that are here, "said Cyhi. “When you grow up and people are feuding and it’s a lot of street beef and it’s a lot of rap beef, everybody’s kind of involved. Sometimes people may think that you’re more involved than what you are due to your past affiliations. So it could be that or like I said, it could be just something that a random mistaken identity. I really haven’t gotten to the bottom of it, but I’m just staying out of the way until I get more information on it.”
There haven't been any suspects arrested either, which the rapper said doesn't surprise him.
“Unfortunately, man, in our culture, it’s not cool to talk to the police,” Cyhi explained. "So a lot of murders and a lot of assaults and different things that go on in the minority or Black community don’t get solved due to our lack of cooperation or respect for law enforcement.”
What's your theory about why someone would try to kill Cyhi?
