Childish Gambino Booed Off Stage In Australia

Justin Bieber and Rae Sremmurd aren't the only North American artists in Oceania this week.

Childish Gambino was supposed to do a show at the The Cambridge Hotel in Newcastle, Australia last night. Gambino came to the venue, but he barely uttered a word for the first forty minutes of his "set", instead sitting behind the turntables as opening act Royalty did their thing.

The show ended after about an hour with the crowd booing Gambino off stage.

According the the Newcastle Herald, "The rapper appeared visibly shocked at the crowd response, which included obscenities and insults aimed at him traced in perspiration on the venue's glass wall."

The venue issued this statement on their Facebook page:

"To everyone who came to see Childish Gambino show last night we are as disappointed as all of you,” reads a statement from The Cambridge Hotel posted on the venue’s Facebook page. “We had the opportunity to present Childish Gambino to Newcastle in an intimate gig and we jumped at the chance as we aim to bring the best possible acts to Newcastle for music lovers. As seen last night, unfortunately we have no control over the acts performance once on stage."
There may have been a misunderstanding between the venue and Gambino over whether it was supposed to be a Childish Gambino show or a DJ Gambino show -- the kind he had been doing earlier in the week Down Under. But so far no word from Gambino's camp.

@SamRigney him and his team have been doing several DJ sets in Australia this week. Doesn't seem like he planned to do a full performance — Aquemini, Track 9 (@MarLew29) October 1, 2015
