Houston rapper Bun B hasn't only collaborated with Jay-Z, he also worked with Jigga's wife Beyonce
Back in 2009, Bun teamed up with fellow Houston artist Slim Thug and Beyonce for "Check On It," and there is a funny story that comes with the creation of the song and video.
On a new episode of The Nostalgia Mixtape podcast, Bun B revealed that this was at the beginning of Beyonce and Jigga's relationship and it seemed like Jay didn't want other men being in the room.
Bun recalls a call between Jigga and Beyonce's assistant, which eventually lead to him and Slim Thug getting kicked out of video shoot until their scene was ready.
"We're on the set of the video and obviously, there's a lot of single men in the room. Jay-Z calls her assistant. If I had to guess it would’ve been her cousin Angie that he would’ve talked to because Angie has always been a right hand to Beyonce. He’s like, ‘Yeah how’s the video going, what’s going good, are the guys there?’ All the guys that are with us are the only men there. Well, let me say this. There were other men there but they weren’t straight.
So he’s like, ‘Wait a minute, how many dudes are there?’ So she’s like ‘Well there are about 9 or 10 guys that are there.’ And he’s like, ‘Where are they now?’ She says, ‘Well, they’re on the sound stage you know, they’re kind of watching her film.’ ‘What is she wearing?’ She describes the outfits and he’s like, ‘Yo, clear the room.
So they immediately come over to us and they kick all of us out to our dressing rooms and we’re told to stay there until we have to shoot. We’re not allowed to watch Beyonce dance anymore."
Check out the clip below, it starts around the 40-minute mark.
