It seems like there's an all-time greatest-rappers list compiled every week, many times from people who don't actually spit.
Black Thought's name has been placed at the top of a lot of lists. There haven't been too many people who have been willing to rhyme with him on record either. The Roots frontman said that Jay-Z ducked him when they were going to be in a cypher with him, Nas and Eminem once.
Thought chopped it up with Fatman Scoop and gave his list, which includes rappers who've helped shape rap and influenced countless MCs.
His top ten is: Rakim, Chuck D, Kool G Rap, Big Daddy Kane, KRS-One, The D.O.C., Run of Run-DMC, Schoolly D, EST of Three Times Dope and LL Cool J.
The Philly raised wordsmith then spoke more about G Rap and Rakim.
“There’s certain artists that are one-fifth of who I feel makes me up, and Rakim is one of those dudes," he explained. "I occupy a dope space where most of the MCs that I have a certain level of respect for, that respect is mutual. That’s all the validity, that’s all really the accolades, that’s all my flowers while I’m still here.”
What do you think about Thought's list?
